Overactive Thyroid Symptoms
This could make a sufferer’s life living hell. The condition is defined by the secretion of high amounts of thyroid hormones into the blood stream which leads to various changes in the organs and intense manifestations at the level of the central nervous system.
Psychological symptoms
1. Changes in behavior – anxiety, nervousness and restlessness!
You can feel a constant drive to be active, do something, and be unable to relax. Even when sitting, you might look around for something to do. Sometimes people feel like they are not in control of their lives, and they have moments of intense apprehension and anxiety.
2. Mood swings
At one moment you are happy and euphoric, and the next depression takes over and you are in the pit of despair. Sometimes the mood swing goes from irritability to easily bursting into tears.
3. The need to talk
Although this symptom does not appear in all patients, it has a high frequency rate. It consists of the need to talk continuously, disregarding how the interlocutor feels about it. Listening to others becomes very difficult.
4. Tiredness
This is a feeling of exhaustion that prevents you from entering or finishing activities that you take pleasure in. This exhaustion will not go away with good night’s rest.
Overactive thyroid symptoms in your LOOKS!
1. Skin, nails and hair are affected by the abnormal secretion of thyroid hormones.
- The skin often looks red and clammy as if affected by deep blushing that does not go away.
- The nails have a dirty look and could separate easily.
- Hair loss may occur, often accompanied by excessive softness and thinning.
2. The swollen neck is also very common. It’s either the thyroid capsule that increases in size, or the growth of nodules on the thyroid that eventually changes your appearance. Suddenly your neck will look fuller and collars will get tighter.
Changes in digestion
Hyperthyroidism sufferers experience an acceleration of the metabolic rate due to the secretion of a higher amount of hormones. Thus, the overactive thyroid symptoms in such a case would include:
- unexplained weight loss despite having regular, normal meals;
- bouts of diarrhea;
- an increase in appetite you may wake up in the middle of the night just to eat.
Other symptoms of hyperthyroidism
- Shakiness in the hands and arms is also possible due to the high sensitivity to adrenaline.
- Weakness in the muscles, particularly in the upper trunk makes regular tasks difficult to carry on with;
- Women’s periods may be seriously affected by the thyroid dysfunction, with irregular, even absent menstrual cycles.
- Because of the metabolic acceleration, the heart needs to beat harder, which may cause palpitations.
See a doctor immediately if you identify several of the above symptoms in you.
